Advisory Update.....Advisory Theme: Honesty

Students have been busy working on the topic of "Honesty to the World". The students have  critically examined various social issues first in their immediate environment of school, then in their larger community of home and where they live and the in the global community. Students have been very engaged during the past weeks sharing information, forming like groups to discuss common interest in issues,  researching and developing an action plan to address certain problems. I encourage you to discuss these issues with your child and follow up with any additional resource or information that you have to offer. The following is taken from your child's Advisory lessons on "Honesty to the World"

Identify social issues that are unfair or unjust in the world:
a        Social Issues at School
b         Social Issues in our Community
c         Global Social Issues

  • Students identify issues of unfairness or injustice and prioritize these based on their interest and values.
  • What social issue that we discussed in class, or that you observed while looking out the window, are you most concerned about? How do those ideas conflict with your values?
  •  How do the social issues clash with your identified values?
a        Why does the issue bother you?

  • Student  think about what actions they and their allies might take to raise awareness about the social issue they are most concerned about.
  • Create a plan that  to raise awareness about the topic in the AISC community and beyond
  • Share the plan...
  •  Reflect on the process of developing and implementing action plans for service to our community.

We will also be having a photo competition which is open to any student who wishes to submit up to three photos in any or all of these four categories; places, people, culture, wildlife/animals. These photos will be displayed throughout our India week.
We are encouraging all our students to wear Indian clothes for the week and really enjoy ( for some of us) our home away from home's culture.
